1. What is Pentecost?
Read: Acts 2:1–4
“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place... All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
Reflection:
-
What stands out to you about the way the Holy Spirit was poured out?
-
How do you think the disciples felt in that moment?
Key Point:
Pentecost was originally a Jewish festival, 50 days after Passover. But after Jesus’ resurrection, it became the day God fulfilled His promise to pour out the Holy Spirit on all believers.
2. The Promise of Power
Read: Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…”
Reflection:
-
Why do you think Jesus connected the Spirit with being His witness?
-
How does the Holy Spirit empower us today?
Pentecostal Emphasis:
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is more than a moment—it’s empowerment for ministry, boldness, and spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12). Speaking in tongues is often the initial evidence (Acts 2:4; Acts 10:44–46).
3. The Global Impact of Pentecost
Read: Acts 2:5–12
People from every nation heard the disciples declaring “the wonders of God” in their own languages.
Reflection:
-
What does this say about God’s heart for the nations?
-
How can the Holy Spirit help us reach people across cultures today?
Key Point:
Pentecost reverses the confusion of Babel (Genesis 11). The Spirit unites believers from all nations under one name—Jesus.
4. The Birth of the Church
Read: Acts 2:37–41
Peter preaches, and about 3,000 are saved and baptized.
Reflection:
-
What does this teach us about the purpose of the Holy Spirit?
-
Are we seeing the fruit of Pentecost in our churches today?
Challenge:
Are you walking in the boldness, power, and purity that the early church walked in? Are you hungry for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit?
And finally:....
-
Invite the Holy Spirit to fill and refresh.
-
Pray for boldness to witness to others.
-
Thank the Lord for the awesome gift of His Holy Spirit freely poured out on us.
“Lord, let Pentecost not just be a day we remember but a reality we live. Fill us again with Your Spirit—give us fire, give us power, and send us out as Your witnesses. Amen.”
